The Department of Mathematics at Augusta University invites applications for two positions.
The first is a tenure-track assistant professor position to begin in August 2024. Applicants must possess a research doctorate. Having postdoctoral experience is preferred. We are seeking candidates who can enrich our M.S. program in Biological and Computational Mathematics. Our preferred areas are mathematical biology, computational mathematics, and applied analysis. The successful candidate must have a strong commitment to excellence in research and teaching and will be expected to establish a research program suitable for training both graduate and undergraduate students. The successful candidate will teach introductory courses, advanced undergraduate courses, and graduate courses which align with their areas of expertise. Our M.S. in Biological and Computational Mathematics admitted its first class in fall 2020 and the successful candidate will have the opportunity to develop new curriculum for that program and supervise graduate students in research. This is a nine-month appointment, with the possibility of summer employment. Salary and startup package will be commensurate with qualifications and experience. A research agenda that leverages extramural facilities is welcomed.
The second position is a non-tenure track teaching assistant professor position which will be renewable and promotable. A Ph.D. in Mathematics or Statistics is expected along with college level teaching experience and strong teaching references. The new hire would teach general education mathematics and statistics courses and, possibly, the occasional more advanced course.
Examination of the applications for both positions will begin on January 8, 2024, and will continue until the positions are filled.
The Department, housed within the College of Science and Mathematics, is composed of 19 full-time faculty members with expertise across a broad spectrum of mathematical disciplines. We have a strong commitment to providing research opportunities to our students in addition to excellent instruction. Our M.S. in Biological and Computational Mathematics, while young, is growing and ambitious. We work closely with the School of Computer and Cyber Sciences in support of their undergraduate and graduate programs, including in their developing program in biomedical systems engineering and our new joint BS in Data Science. Furthermore, we are developing research ties with the Medical College of Georgia as we build a distinctive identity of applying mathematics to problems of human and public health.
Augusta University is one of four research universities in the University System of Georgia and the state’s only public academic medical center, offering over 150 degree programs from bachelor’s to doctoral. In July 2021, the College of Science and Mathematics moved into a new-state-of-the-art building for research and teaching located on the Health Sciences Campus, which is in close proximity to the Medical College of Georgia, Dental College of Georgia, and Georgia Cancer Center. The department is also near to the Georgia Cyber Center, which allows Georgia to work closely with the U.S. Army Cyber Center of Excellence at Fort Gordon. Opportunities may also exist at the nearby Savanah River Site.
Augusta Georgia is the cultural center of the region, site of the Masters Golf Tournament, home of the new Georgia Cyber Center and is within easy driving distance of Atlanta, Savannah, Charleston, Charlotte, the Appalachian Mountains, and the Atlantic beaches.
