Call for Nominations: Mathematical Oncology Early Career Awards

The SMB Mathematical Oncology Subgroup is pleased to announce its inaugural annual awards for outstanding early career researchers. These awards recognize exceptional work at the graduate and postdoctoral levels within the field of mathematical oncology.

Awards Categories

  • Mathematical Oncology Graduate Student Award

  • Mathematical Oncology Postdoctoral Researcher Award

The Prize: One award will be granted in each category per year. Winners are selected based on the quality of their presentation at the annual SMB meeting, supported by a preprint, accepted, or recently published paper.

Nomination Process

Eligible researchers are invited to self-nominate their SMB abstract via the forms below:

The forms will ask you to submit the following material:

  1. Nomination Letter (1 page): Written by the applicant, highlighting key novelties, advances, and the work's relevance to mathematical oncology.

  2. Presentation Confirmation: Confirmation of an accepted abstract/scheduled talk at the upcoming SMB meeting.

  3. Research Paper: A written copy of the work to be presented (preprint, accepted manuscript, or recently published paper).

Eligibility Criteria

  • Membership: Nominees must be members of both SMB and the Mathematical Oncology Subgroup. (Note: If you are not a subgroup member, just log into your SMB account to add yourself to the subgroup.)

  • Graduate Student Award: Open to current graduate or medical students.

  • Postdoctoral Researcher Award: Open to current postdoctoral researchers, medical residents, or early-career non-tenure track research scientists (within 4 years of PhD, barring extenuating circumstances).

  • Verification: Advisors/PIs will be contacted to confirm the applicant’s role and status.

Evaluation Criteria

The work must demonstrate clear relevance to mathematical oncology. Research should be sufficiently developed (published or in preprint form). Nominated talks are not restricted to the mathematical oncology minisymposia; any relevant talk at the SMB meeting is eligible.
