The Society for Mathematical Biology (SMB) is aiming to fill the position of Editor-in-Chief (EIC) of the Bulletin of Mathematical Biology, its flagship society journal. The Bulletin is published in partnership with Springer-Nature. It is one of the oldest journals in the field, having been established under its current name in 1973 (https://smb.org/History-of-the-Society).
The responsibilities of the EIC include establishing the overall scientific direction of the journal, appointing members of the editorial board, and leading the decision-making process in handling manuscript submissions. In this role, the EIC receives substantial support from a dedicated editorial assistant and the Springer-Nature editorial team. Desired qualifications include an active research program in an area of mathematical biology, as well as prior editorial experience.
The contract is for an initial 5-year period, beginning in July 2027, and is renewable by mutual agreement. The position carries with it a stipend of $30,000 USD per year.
Applicants should provide a complete CV, including all publications, and a statement - no longer than two pages - of their qualifications and vision for the journal. Review of applications will begin December 15 and continue until the position is filled. Please contact Dr. Reinhard Laubenbacher, the chair of the search committee, with any inquiries.
