Multiple graduate student and postdoctoral positions are available in the mathematical biology group at Université de Montréal, under the (co-)supervision of Morgan Craig and/or David McLeod. The Craig lab studies how the immune system responds to threats and how differences between individuals affect these responses. For this, they develop predictive, mechanistic mathematical and computational models to study the progression and treatment of cancer and viral infectious diseases through the lens of immunity. The McLeod lab focuses on questions in evolutionary biology, ranging from general evolutionary theory (e.g., evolutionary conflict, cooperation) to evolutionary epidemiology.

Requirements
The ideal candidates will have strong academic and/or publication records (depending on career stage) in mathematical/computational modelling. Experience in immunology, blood cell dynamics, drug modelling, evolutionary epidemiology, and/or evolutionary biology is an asset. Candidates should demonstrate a high degree of independence and excellent communication skills. They will also work well with their peers and collaborators, be detailed-oriented and well-organized. Postdoc candidates will also help with the supervision of students and interns and collaborate on grant applications.
Training: BSc/MSc/PhD (stage-dependent) in applied mathematics, pharmaceutical sciences, computational biology, or a related discipline.
Specific expertise: Demonstrated mathematical modelling skills, differential equations, dynamical systems; programming skills; prior knowledge of specific field of study (e.g., immunology, evolutionary biology) is an asset.
Funding
MSc: Fully funded (minimum $22,000/year + cost of living increases) for two years. Scholarship recipients receive top up bonuses. Speaking French is not a requirement but an asset as French speakers may also take on teaching assistantships.
PhD: Fully funded (minimum $26,500/year + annual cost of living increases) for four years. Scholarship recipients receive top up bonuses. Speaking French is not a requirement but an asset as French speakers may also take on teaching assistantships.
Postdoc: Initial appointment of 1 year (with possibility of extension) starting at $60,000-$65,000/year. Speaking French is not a requirement. The duration of the position is conditional on the:
- availability of research funds
- project progress
- candidate's eligibility to maintain a postdoctoral fellowship status at the university
