From: GrantsNet@aaas.org Date: Wed, 3 Jan 2007 16:22:46 -0500 (EST) Subject: [Grantsnet-l] GrantsNet Funding News, January 2007 Funding News, January 2007 http://sciencecareers.sciencemag.org/funding/funding_news US Department of Defense: Breast Cancer Concept Award The Breast Cancer Research Program (BCRP) is offering Concept Awards to spark new ideas and foster the development of new, innovative, high-risk but potentially high-gain avenues of investigation. This award mechanism provides investigators with the opportunity to pursue serendipitous observations and/or explore untested ideas relevant to breast cancer. Research completed through a Concept Award may provide sufficient preliminary data to enable the investigator to prepare a proposal for future research. As such, preliminary data are not consistent with the intent of this award mechanism. As in prior years, the Concept Awards will have blinded review process; the principal investigator and institution names will not be provided during either peer or programmatic review. These awards are designed for preliminary investigations; therefore, projects involving human subjects or human biological substances will not be supported unless they are exempt under 32 CFR 219.101(b)(4). Con cept Awards provide up to $75,000 in direct costs for 1 year, plus indirect costs as appropriate. The purpose of this prize is to honor a scientific investigator, or group of investigators, whose contributions to knowledge in either of these fields are deemed worthy of special recognition The Prize Committee recognizes no geographical limitations. The prize may be awarded to an individual or a group. When the prize is awarded to a group, the honorarium will be divided among the recipients, and each member will receive a citation. Preference will be given to work done in the recent past. The Prize consists of an honorarium and a citation which are awarded at a special presentation event. Unless otherwise recommended by the Prize Committee, the Prize is awarded annually.
